Job Description
YOU MUST BE A FORESTRY & ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES STUDENT, ELIGIBLE FOR A STUDENT ASSISTANTSHIP TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION. The Yale Farm is a 1-acre urban teaching farm located on Edwards Street on Yale's main campus. The Agro-ecosystem planner will work with key farm stakeholders to develop a biophysical management plan for the Yale Farm with consideration of adjacent land areas and related plans for the area. Early in the development of this plan, priority projects will be identified for completion during the 2012-13 academic year. Priority projects may include, but are not limited to: 1. Drainage analaysis and improvements, 2. Food preparation infrastructure, 3. Sanitation improvements, 4. Harvest processing infrastructure and facilities, 5. Soil quality assessment and improvement, 5. Renewable energy production, 6. Green roof development. After choosing the priority project with YSFP staff the student assistant (s) will be responsible for planning and completing the project. Funds appropriate to the scope of the project to cover expenses will be made available upon approval for the workplan. Job Requirements
1. Must be a self-starter and independent worker 2. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills 3. Have completed courses in, or have experience with land-use planning processes and developing management recommendations 4. Strong interest in food and agriculture 5. Have a sense of fun, and a collaborative spirit 6. Experience with, or aptitude for carrying out practical design-build projects
